The 2022 Economic Development Plan outlined two key ways the community is working toward that goal:

Second, there’s a push to build new homes. These efforts are focused on supporting both families looking to settle down and residents who may be ready to downsize, using a combination of local investment and available state funding.
One challenge that often comes up with home improvements or new construction is the concern around higher property taxes. To help ease that burden, Smith County and several local municipalities have renewed the Neighborhood Revitalization Plan, which went into effect on December 5, 2022.
This program provides a tax rebate on the increased value of a property after qualifying improvements of $25,000 or more, whether residential or commercial. It’s designed to make upgrades and reinvestment feel more doable, while still encouraging growth across the community.
