Kensington Lockers is a regional custom locker and retail meat store situated in Kensington, Kansas. Operating since 1976, it is now owned and managed by Dylan and Deidra Tweedy. Both Dylan and Deidra have lived in this area their entire lives and proudly consider Kensington their home. They actively participate in the community and support local initiatives aimed at enhancing and celebrating the qualities of small-town life.

 

Kensington Lockers frequently wins awards for its meat. They are USDA Federally Inspected and provide a variety of hickory smoked products, along with Village Frozen Pies, fresh beef and pork, and other specialty items.


Their jerky is the ultimate high-protein snack for the road!

  • The Home on the Range Cabin- Dr. Brewster M Higley wrote a poem titled “My Western Home” to describe the beauty of the site he had chosen for his Kansas Homestead in 1871. He penned this now-famous work on the bank of the West Beaver Creek in Smith County, Kansas, where along with the help of a few friends, he also constructed a cabin on July 4, 1872.

    Dr. Higley presented the poem to his friend Dan Kelly who set it to music and then gave it to John Harlan, the leader of a family band that included Kelly. The song “Home on the Range” was born. The Home on the Range Cabin is listed on the National Historical Register and the song is the Kansas Offical State Song.


  • Harlan Lady Liberty- Harlan is another small unincorporated town southwest of Gaylord on US 281. Harlan Hill, located between Gaylord and Harlan, has a 8 ft 4 in. replica of Lady Liberty.

    It is one of 26 in the state of Kansas that were manufactured for the Boy Scouts of America in 1950. This spot overlooks the beautiful view of the Solomon River Valley.


Fun Fact: US Hwy 281 is the sole two-lane highway that stretches entirely across the United States from Canada to Mexico. This distinction makes it the longest uninterrupted three-digit U.S. Route.
